The SCHOA Board of Directors meets monthly on the fourth Tuesday of each month (with the exception of July and August) from 9:00am-10:00am. Meetings are opened to Sun City residents. Please contact the SCHOA office at 623.974.4718 with any questions.
President
Edward Van Ness, his wife Stella, and their two children moved to Arizona from upstate New York in 1982. He worked for the Arizona Department of Transportation for eighteen years and then moved on to the City of Peoria. In 2005 he relocated to Sun City where he continued working until 2018. At ADOT, he became a Traffic Signal Maintenance Supervisor, installer and programmer.
At the City of Peoria, he also worked in the Traffic Signal Department responsible for planning and implementing their maintenance program for signal citywide. He has been involved in many volunteer and leadership positions including, but not limited to, member of Southwest Living History Association, events/entertainment at RCSC, current Secretary for the Properties Committee for RCSC and a current member of SCHOA’s Roads and Safety Committee.
Vice President
Greg Bradley and his wife, Vicki, were snowbirds for four years before moving to Sun City permanently from Mt. Zion, Illinois in 2022. He has a Master’s Degree in Education Administration and spent seven years as a teacher and coach before becoming a high school principal for 27 years.
Gregory has volunteered for various Boards including as Trustee for Mt. Zion Village, where he and his wife lived. He also served as Treasurer of Illinois High School Association, Elder of Passion Church and currently serves on the council for United Church of Sun City as the Moderator.
Serving on the SCHOA Board would give him the opportunity to become more involved with the community and be more cognizant about the CC&R’s.
Treasurer
John Terko relocated to Sun City from Vermont four years ago. He spent his career as an Educator and has a master’s degree in Education from the University of Vermont. He spent twenty-seven years of his career as a school principal. In addition, John was chairman of the Vermont License Board for Administrators, and a school board member for six years. He has served in many leadership roles over the years.
John is currently President of the Sun City Prides where he has volunteered for four years. John looks to serving on SCHOA’s board because he feels that what makes a better world is the ability to give back by giving of one’s time and knowledge. He indicates that listening to all sides of an issue is imperative to making good decisions. He looks forward to the opportunity.
Secretary
Leigh Reeves relocated to Arizona more than 30 years ago from Minnesota, moving with her husband to Sun City 11 years ago, and have been SCHOA members since buying a home.
She is a retired Computer Software/Systems Engineer, and has worked in a variety of industries ranging from retail, wholesale distribution, manufacturing and financial services. Since retirement, Leigh has volunteered for the Elks, Habitat for Humanity and Banner Health hospitals.
Leigh is currently a member of the Sun City Posse, where she helps to design and implement new software. She has served on three HOA boards in Arizona prior, including as Vice President of the Palm Valley HOA in Goodyear. She explained that being a board member would allow her to utilize the skills she learned over her career to protect what she values in Sun City: clean, quiet neighborhood, reasonable property taxes and more.
Director
Ms. Baggett, originally from Canada, moved to Sun City this year from Phoenix where she had resided for 26 years. She has a BA in Education and Religion.
Ms. Baggett has worked for the Police Department in Payson and worked as Manager for one of the big box stores. She was on the Board of Directors for her church while in Phoenix and currently volunteers in service to Veterans and their families to assist with healthcare, housing and nutrition.
Ms. Baggett feels as a relatively new resident in Sun City she can offer a fresh set of eyes to the SCHOA Board to keep Sun City the quality and beautiful place residents have come to expect.
Director
Sandee Crawford moved to Sun City from Lakewood, Colorado fifteen years ago. She worked as a Special Education Technician in both elementary and high school for many years.
As she likes to stay busy, she contributes to several Sun City organizations. She is on the Communications Committee at RCSC and the CC&R Committee at SCHOA. She is also the chairperson for her church Staff Committee as well as serving on their Finance and Leadership Committees. Sandra also attends many open meetings at both RCSC and SCHOA.
She feels it is important to be involved with her community. She would like to serve on the Sun City Homeowners’ Association Board to promote SCHOA, let residents know how important SCHOA actually is for our community and work on increasing membership numbers.
Director
John DeWeerdt and his wife, Zona, moved to Sun City in 2005 from Virginia. John received a BA in Political Science and Juris Doctors Degree from the University of Washington. John spent most of his adult life in Colorado and Washington, DC.
He worked as Staff Attorney representing the USPS while in DC. He also served on the Architectural Control Committee in Virginia. While in Colorado, he was a partner in a Denver Law Firm where his specialty was real estate and water rights. He has previously served on the Board of Directors of his church since moving to Sun City.
John looks forward to serving on the SCHOA Board of Directors to help preserve the principles that made Sun City the wonderful place to live that it is and keep that going.
Director
Allan Lenefsky is originally from Colorado and moved to Sun City six years ago from California with his wife, Jeannie. He has a BA from University of Colorado and a JD Degree from Golden Gate University Law School. Mr. Lenefsky had a legal career for forty years in California and served as State Administrative Law Judge and in several other positions in his law profession.
He had been very active in volunteer activities while in California and has also been on the RCSC Board of Directors, the RCSC Long Range Planning Committee and as his condo association president. He currently serves on the Sun City Home Owners Association CC&R Committee.
Allan wishes to be on the SCHOA Board of Directors to help Sun City remain a nice community in which to live. He also wants to be active in working on maintaining the age overlay in Sun City. He feels he has had a broad range of experience to be a value to SCHOA and the community.
Director
Karla West moved to Sun City in 2022, from Washington State. Professionally, Karla spent 24 years as a representative for an international aerospace company, managing their US repair station and gaining experience in leadership and problem solving.
Locally, she is a former member of the Sun City in Focus Committee of the RCSC. Karla owns and operates a volunteer community radio station, scazradio.com.
Karla is proud to call Sun City home and is committed to helping to preserve the unique character and quality of life that makes this community special. With decades of leadership experience and community service, Karla is proud to represent neighbors and protect the values that make Sun City a vibrant place to live.
