The EPCOR water formal hearing was scheduled to begin on Monday May 14, 2018 and proceed through May 25th.
On Thursday May 10th, a prehearing conference was held, supplying us with a couple significant surprises. First, a new Administrative Law Judge had been appointed (Judge Scott M. Hesla), to finish the rate case hearing procedures. Second, the scheduled hearing was postponed to begin on July 17, 2018 proceeding through July 27th.
Also, a time for the public’s comment was scheduled for Monday, May 14, 2018 beginning at 10:00am at the main hearing room located at 1200 W. Washington Street, Phoenix, Az 85007-2996. Several Sun city residents attended this meeting.
The hearing in general was postponed due to a late intervention as well as an unexpected overload of cases for the Commission Staff and RUCO. Simply, more time was needed to properly prepare for their presentation of evidence, witnesses and cross examinations.
What does that mean to the Sun City District ratepayers? The bottom line; It moves the likely decision date from sometime in September to sometime in November. This is actually a good thing for our ratepayers. Why? Because we anticipate a decision in our Wastewater Appeal Case sometime late August or early September. If we prevail, it would put pressure on the Commission to vote against forced consolidation. If we lose, the water rate increases would likely be postponed to sometime in December.
Stay tuned – Have a great summer.
