SCHOA’s 2020 Board of Directors Voting Procedures and Candidates in alphabetical order
The Sun City Home Owners Association will be filling three board vacancies; two 3-year terms and one 1-year term.
Voting will start November 4th and go through November 17, 2019 and will be available one of two ways:
- Online 24/7, suncityhoa.org
Beginning Monday, November 4th through Sunday, November 17th or
- In the SCHOA office, 10401 West Coggins Drive, Sun City AZ 85351
Monday, November 4th, through Friday, November 15th; from 9 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.

Dennis Carlson
Mr. Carlson moved with his wife to Sun City in 2015 having been a snowbird from Nebraska for six years.
Dennis’ Associates Degree supported him through a 42-year management career, as well as his 28 years’ elected service as Mayor of Shelby, Nebraska where his public speaking ability came in handy. He was elected to the City Council for 34 years and has also served on his Church Council for 4 years, including a term as President. He considers his second career is “golf and more golf” and enjoys working on computers.
Dennis enjoys working with others and assisting with problem solving issues.
George Courtot
Mr. Courtot spent most of his life in Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania. He has lived in Sun City for four years. He received a BA degree from Rutgers College and received his law degree from American University.
Admitted to the bar of Maryland and D.C., George focused on insurance law and defense where he worked several high-profile cases specializing in professional and product liability and contractual issues. He has been awarded many honors and professional designations.
Currently, George is on SCHOA’s CC&R committee and Insurance Committee and also serves on the Insurance Committee for the RCSC. He is also a board member/officer for the Sun City Early Bird Lions Club.
On serving on the SCHOA board, George believes that community service is an obligation and a privilege and respects SCHOA’s efforts in maintaining the qualities and values of our community.
Jim Powell
Jim Powell became a winter visitor in 1998 and became full time residents in 2005. He previously lived in California and Wisconsin.
Receiving a degree in Police Science/Administration, Jim attended Fullerton College and California State Long Beach. He retired from law enforcement after 24 years.
Jim previously served on SCHOA’s Board for eight years. Currently he serves on the Compliance Committee and is co-chairman of the Roads and Safety Committee. He also is a member of the RCSC Bowling Committee, also past member of RCSC Properties Committee. Jim believes it is important to protect property values and ensure the safety of Sun City residents through communication with local agencies and enforcing our CC&R’s.
Pam Schwartz
Ms. Schwartz has lived in Sun City for 8 years, having moved with her husband to AZ from Illinois.
Pam received a nursing license and later earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and a Master’s in Business Administration from Aurora University in Illinois. She worked as a charge nurse and in private duty and, after getting her business degrees, worked as a sales and logistics coordinator for a major home electronics firm.
Pam, having served on the SCHOA board previously (2013 – 2017), is a past president of the board. She has served in many volunteer positions including being asked by legislators to assist in dealing with West Valley transit issues where she continues to volunteer. She is also a member of the Sun Cities Museum. Her current positions with SCHOA are on the Roads and Safety, Membership and By-Laws Committees.
Pam loves Sun City and SCHOA having learned to appreciate them through her late father, a snowbird and resident before her. She feels she is honoring him by living in and working with the Sun City Community. She feels strongly about the values that makes SCHOA such an effective advocate for Sun City.
