As a Member, How You Can Help

If you are interested in taking an active part in the direction of Sun City, you have come to the right place since there are many ways to help out as described below.  We welcome your participation in any or all of these options so you, too, can make a difference.

First, participate in Board Meetings and have your voice heard!  You can sit in on SCHOA monthly Board meetings to find out what is going on in our community, to learn where you can be of service, and to contribute to the direction of Sun City.  Meetings generally last less than two hours and are held in the SCHOA office building on the fourth Tuesday of every month at 9:00 a.m.  You will hear reports from committee chairs on the status of work within their respective committees as well as be a part of open discussions pertaining to proposals and recommendations.  Constructive input is encouraged and always welcome.

Second, join a committee and make a difference.
After seeing how you might fit in, you can volunteer to be a member of a committee that interests you.  Importantly, these are not rubber-stamp groups.  Committee members frequently represent a wide variety of viewpoints, and consensus is sometimes not easily reached, but diverse points of view strengthen solutions and are an important part of what makes
Sun City great.

Third, become a Board Member by running for a vacant seat.
Ideally there should be twice as many candidates in any election as there are openings.  That ratio gives the voting membership a choice among residents whose qualifications meet the current needs of the Board for background and expertise.  If elected, you will enjoy knowing in detail what is going on in
Sun City and in being an active participant in efforts to build on the strengths of the community while driving change in areas of development.  If you aren’t elected, you will have been exposed to the process by which Sun City governs itself, and in all likelihood, be asked to serve on one of
SCHOA’s committees.

Last but not least, become a
Sun City advocate.  If you choose to do none of the above (and we sincerely encourage you to give any or all of them a shot), there is another way to help.  You can be one of the pairs of eyes that look at our community, not as a spy or complainer, but as a good citizen.  Let SCHOA know when you spot something that requires attention: a pothole, low-hanging branches blocking the view at an intersection, water running down the street, a vehicle parked off pavement, or perhaps an alleged violation of the CC&Rs.  SCHOA’s staff spends much of its time on the telephone and can’t be gone from the offices often enough to cruise the streets regularly.  But as a Sun City advocate, you can help SCHOA and all of us who live in Sun City by simply helping us keep our community the absolute best it can be!
